THINGS TO DO

No trip to Maine is complete without a visit to a lighthouse, so seek out the Portland Breakwater Lighthouse at Bug Light Park. Located to the east of the Greenbelt Walkway, Bug Light Park is the perfect destination for skyline views of Portland. The annual Kite Festival is also held here each year.

Also near Bug Light Park is Spring Point Shoreway Trail, which runs 1.6 miles from Fisherman’s Point to Bug Light Park. Your walk will take you back in history, seeing a fort frequently attacked during the American Civil War. To cap off your historical tour, make sure to pass by Liberty Ship Memorial, the site of significant shipbuilding activities during WWII. From 1941 to 1945, about 30,000 people worked here, building liberty ships for the New England and Portland Shipbuilding Corporations.

And after all that walking and exploring the rich history of Southern Portland, check out Willard Beach for a relaxing break!

And if that is still not enough activity, be sure to purchase tickets to a show to see the Portland Players or The Lyric Music Theater. Both offer ample opportunities for musical and stage delight.
