"If a year was tucked inside a clock, then Autumn would be the magic hour." ~Victoria Erickson
It's November and the time of year we turn our thoughts inward towards gathering by a cozy fire and nesting with loved ones, and with it comes a renewed focus on activities that center around comfort and tradition. So many of those activities happen "at home". So what is it that makes a house feel like a home?
While the aesthetic choices are very personal, there are simple things that don't cost much money, like adding and mixing textures. A combination of soft fabrics with natural fibers, natural wood tones with painted, and layering patterns with solid colors. Soft lighting is key in creating a feeling of warmth. Consider dimmers on all lighting for ambiance, and light those candles for yourself every day, not just for company. New furniture isn't necessary to make your spaces more welcoming. Try adding a few pillows, throws, baskets, and area rugs. Accessorize your walls with art that makes you happy. A Picasso budget isn't required to display treasured family photos in simple matching frames. The bottom line is you don't have to make big purchases this holiday season to make your home a little more welcoming or your memories a little more special. Love is in the details.
